 ntbrite.co.uk/e/was-jerusalem-builded-here-models-of-the-holy-sepulchre-ti
 ckets-1979965262399?aff=oddtdtcreator\n\nRepresentations of the Church of
the Holy Sepulchre are almost as old as the founding of the church itself
in the 4th Century: in Byzantine and medieval painting\, sculpted reliefs\
, coins and even in the form of architectural copies. However\, for about
200 years (c. 1600-1800)\, models were made of olive wood by local craftsm
en in the Holy Land for sale to European visitors and pilgrims. Around 30
of these survive\, including three in the Museum of the Order of St John c
ollection. This talk examines the phenomenon\, asking how they were design
ed\, who acquired them\, and what they can tell us about perceptions of Je
rusalem in early modern Britain.\n\nAndrew Jotischky is Professor of Medi
eval History at Royal Holloway University of London. He is interested in m
edieval religious history\, especially pilgrimage\, crusading\, and monast
icism and has published widely on these subjects. His most recent book is
The Monastic World: A 1200 Year History (Yale University Press\, 2024).\n

 Anne: Simulation\, Casualty Training\, and Education Tickets\, Wed\, Mar 1
 1\, 2026 at 7:00 PM | Eventbrite\n\nProfessor Jonathan Reinarz will explor
e the development of simulation in first-aid and life-saving training\, us
ing the emergence of Resusci Anne in the early 1960s as a point of departu
re.\n\nAlthough often described as the 'world’s most kissed face' and ce
ntral to CPR education for over six decades\, Anne represents only one ele
ment of a much longer and broader history of medical simulation. Situating
her appearance within the wider simulation landscape of the 1960s\, the p
aper traces the evolution of casualty simulation across the 20th Century\,
from low-technology practices such as moulage\, role-play\, and volunteer
casualties to increasingly sophisticated physiological simulators. Focusi
ng on Britain\, it explores how simulation developed in response to changi
ng medical knowledge\, educational priorities\, and societal demands\, inc
luding war\, industrial accidents\, and mass-casualty incidents. The paper
concludes by showing how these 20th Century developments laid the foundat
ions for contemporary disaster simulation and emergency preparedness train
ing.\n\nJonathan Reinarz\, Professor of the History of Medicine and Direct
or of the History of Medicine Unit at the University of Birmingham\, has p
ublished extensively on the history of hospitals and medical education. Hi
s research currently focusses on medical simulation in 20th Century Britai
 n.\n
